When gospel singer Kambua posted on social media about land being sold in Malindi, people took notice of her powerful voice and motivational songs.

We’re starting the year off right thanks to Risiih Investments. You have the chance to own a piece of Kenya at the Coast right now.

She stated that the land is located “40 minutes from Malindi town, adjacent to the solar factory,” and that the price is quite inexpensive.

The process is straightforward and completely transparent, Kambua assured her audience as she urged them to invest. I can attest to their honesty.

However, Kambua’s marketing of the land sale sparked a lot of debate and received conflicting responses from online users. Some people had their doubts about buying land, especially given the market at the time.

Engineer Musasia Titus, a user, commented, “Tunaogopa mashamba saa hii,”

Despite the unfavorable comments, Kambua maintained her composure and replied, “I understand.”

A different Facebook user mocked her financial circumstances. “Kambua, We are waiting for the coming of JESUS CHRIST,” said Okoth Vicky Music. Rent and land purchases are not allowed in paradise.

On a more serious note, John Kai, pointed out, “Kambua, I was born and brought up in Malindi, I probably know this region better than you do. Chakama is far from Malindi, many people have reached out to find out about these pieces of land you people advertise, but not giving the right and correct information.”

A Reddit user, Melanin Queen, was livid about how influencers are being used to sell land. He narrated, “Once in a while, I hop into my Instagram account and see what’s popping, and have ya’ll noticed that almost everyone’s social media Aunt or Uncle is selling land?

Before ya’ll come saying they are legit and that I’m a hater, hear me out…Kwanza, Mombasa be careful, the amount of land that’s in pending court cases due to ethnic/tribal property issues is through the roof.

The majority of legal land is sold by banks. How many of these influencers actually recommend visiting the Ministry of Lands  to the buyers?

I once witnessed a woman trying to acquire land through one of these local influencers on one of those influencer pages. Once she stated she was hiring her lawyers to verify, the guys didn’t want any meetings. I estimate that this will all end in five years and another con/scam story will emerge.
