Susan, the Health Cabinet Secretary, revealed on Thursday, February 2, that the National Health Insurance Fund’s name would be changing (NHIF).

The CS announced that the insurance fund would soon change its name to the National Social Health Insurance Fund during a press conference held at the Safari Park Hotel (NSHIF).

“Everyone must be on board if we are to drive this universal healthcare. Due to this, a team is already at work, and NSHIF will be implemented over the coming several months.

“The NSHIF will not abandon anyone. Every Kenyan would have access to healthcare, declared Susan.

The revelation was made by the CS while he was in Nairobi for the first Cancer Summit.

Nakhumicha added that the change from the National Hospital Insurance Fund to the National Health Insurance Fund was only another chapter in the evolution of the fund.

When Governor Anyang Nyong’o served as Minister of Health, he switched from the country’s Hospital Insurance Fund to the National Health Insurance Fund, Nakhumicha said.

The CS also disclosed that the government will hire 90,000 community healthcare workers as part of improving Universal Healthcare.

She said: “The 90,000 community workers would be very valuable, especially in getting rid of the cancer menace in Kenya.”
