John-Allan Namu, an investigative journalist, is pleased to have joined the Advisory Board of the Reuters Institute.
High profile individuals from news organizations, technology firms, media policymaking, and academia make up the board.
On February 7, 2023, three journalists, including Namu, were named to the board.
“I am honoured to be joining the Reuters Institute’s Advisory Board. I am very excited about the opportunity to learn and contribute to thought leadership in journalism,” he said in a post.
The board observed that the three new members will offer helpful direction in developing a network between the institution and significant organizations in the journalism industry.
John-Allan Namu is a well-known media personality who has had a big impact on the journalistic field.
He is the CEO and co-founder of Africa Uncensored, a media outlet that focuses on in-depth reporting and investigative journalism in the public interest.
John-Allan has developed his investigative filming abilities throughout the course of his nearly 20-year career.
In addition to other honors, he also holds the renowned CNN African Journalist of the Year award.
Luz Mely Reyes and Zaffar Abbas are his new board companions.
Zaffar Abbas
Zaffar Abbas is a well-known editor at Dawn, the top English-language newspaper in Pakistan. Zaffar developed his abilities at Pakistani daily publication The Herald before joining Dawn. He also worked as the Pakistan reporter for BBC World.
He has been Dawn’s editor during some of Pakistan’s most important news occasions, like as political upheavals, military takeovers, and diplomatic disputes with India. Zaffar has received multiple honors for his outstanding journalism, including the 2019 Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award from the CPJ.
Luz Mely
Co-founder of the digital media outlet Efecto Cocuyo and a highly experienced multimedia journalist from Venezuela, Luz Mely Reyes has a passion for independent journalism.
Since the organization’s founding in 2015, she has served as its leader. For her efforts, she has won numerous honors, including the Gabo Prize (2018), the Franco-German Human Rights Prize (2019), and the CPJ Prize for Freedom of Expression (2018).
Additionally, Luz Mely established Venezuela Migrante, a website dedicated to tracking Venezuelans’ international travel.
