John Kaguchia, a member of parliament for Mukurweini, dismissed reports that the Mt. Kenya region was unhappy with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, asserting that the region will continue to be governed until 2032.
Kaguchia stated that the region will stick together with Ruto regardless of what happens with Kenya Kwanza or Mount Kenya, even if he runs for reelection in 2027.
A group of leaders convened in what has been dubbed Limuru III last week issued a decree criticizing Ruto’s government, claiming that the government they largely supported had ignored the Mt. Kenya region.
The Haki Coalition was formed at the meeting, which was mostly attended by opposition leaders from the Mt. Kenya region. The coalition’s mission is to represent the needs of the local populace and hold Ruto’s government accountable.
However, Ruto’s allies dismissed the gathering, claiming that the people of Mount Kenya will continue to rule.
Additionally, there have been rumors of a falling out between Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua. After going AWOL for a week and missing important official activities, the DP reappeared in Nyeri on Sunday and subsequently bid farewell to Ruto during his state visit to the US.
Allies of Gachagua, led by Governor Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri, appeared to corroborate the rumors, declaring that the people of Mount Kenya will not tolerate any mistreatment of Gachagua.
Despite claiming that there are others attempting to sow discord between Ruto and Gachagua, Kahiga promised to support the DP no matter what.
