Three days of the Eastern Bypass will see a disruption in traffic as Kura works to finish the route.

A stretch of the Eastern bypass will stay closed for three days, according to a notice from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) dated Sunday, January 29, 2023.

This will enable the contractor to finish surface dressing the area between Embakasi Barracks and the site camp of China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC).

The notice stated that “We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Eastern Bypass from 6 am Monday, January 30 to February 1, 6 pm,”

Affected will be the section of road leading to Mombasa Road from the China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) site camp to the Embakasi barracks.

Due to the obstruction, drivers along the impacted area would have to share the outbound lane.

However, police and traffic marshals will be present to direct drivers and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Kura has therefore urged motorists using the highway to be more cautious.

Please be patient as we work to improve urban mobility, the agency pleaded.

Beginning in November 2021, a dual carriageway expansion of the Eastern Bypass costing Sh12.5 billion.

This came after Kura and the China Communication Construction Company, who would be finishing the Sh12.5 billion project, signed a deal.

The bypass was created when the Grand Coalition government was in power. It is one of the Vision 2030 infrastructure projects.

During the two-day Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China, in May 2017, the Kenyan government delegation presented 11 infrastructure projects to international investors. The expansion is one of those projects.

The expansion of the Southern and Northern Bypasses is another.
