Abdulswamad Nassir, the recently elected governor of Mombasa, is a well-known ally of Mr. Joho and played a significant role in ensuring that he won the seat and received an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

Governor Nassir, who has already committed to working alongside President Dr. William Ruto, made a statement on January 15, 2023, at the Mombasa location of the Elimu na Mazingira building, where he also announced the names of his cabinet.

He included seven advisors and ten members of the county executive committee in the letter.

The departments of Education, Transportation, Water, and Lands will be led by Dr. Mbwarali Kame, Mr. Daniel Otieno, Ms. Emily Achieng, and Mr. Mohamed Hussein, respectively.
