On the evening of February 7, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) opened an investigation into the kidnapping of a Police Commander in Narok.
Frederick Kinaibei Shiundu, Commander of the Narok Central Sub-County Police, was discovered abandoned at 3:30 am beside a river, according to a person familiar with the situation.
When the two armed individuals approached the senior police officer, he was not hurt physically but was robbed of his rifle.
Later, a watchman found him by the river and brought him back to Narok Police Station so he could provide a statement. He was then saved.
“It took place yesterday night. Both fatalities and injuries were avoided. They merely abducted him and took his weapon. He was taken back after being discovered by a watchman someplace “the source said.
Shiundu revealed in a statement that the two men approached him as he opened his gate and forced him into a car.
The unnamed security guy discovered the officer after the thugs abandoned him beside the river and drove off with him.
“The officer who was still in police uniform states while opening the gate to his house, he was confronted by two men and one was armed with a pistol who aimed at him and bungled him into a Toyota Wish whose registration is not known and robbed him his firearm then drove off towards Mau Narok direction.
“He was dumped at Tipis area and was rescued by a watchman. He was not injured during the incident,” read the statement filed at the police station in part.
Shiundu also lost 14 rounds of ammunition alongside his Jericho firearm in the incident.
This came even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki vowed to scale up security operations across the country – especially in regions dogged with banditry.
On Monday, February 6, the CS celebrated his 100th day in office. He listed stopping banditry attacks and cattle rustling as among of his accomplishments.
He added that security incidents in the nation’s capital and its neighboring counties, including Kiambu, have considerably decreased during the President William Ruto regime.
