According to Prof. Makau Mutua, the ODM leader Raila Odinga’s spokesperson, Simba Arati, the governor of Kisii, may someday become Kenya’s president.
In a tweet, Prof. Mutua said that the governor has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities and has done so only a few months into his term.
“Governor Simba Arati of Kisii may someday take office as Kenya’s president. The man is moral, brave, forward-thinking, and bright. “Be careful,” he tweeted.
Prof. Mutua’s remarks were made soon after major Azimio figures held a rally in Kisii county.
Former Dagoretti North MP Governor Arati spoke firmly to express his allegiance to Mr. Odinga, the leader of his party.
“Naskia watu wengine wakisema mkutano hautafanyika hapa. Si nyinyi ni Wakisii, mkutano umefanyika ama vipi? (I heard some people saying that the rally will not be held in Kisii. Have we had a meeting or not?)” he posed.
Mr. Odinga thanked the Gusii people in his speech for standing by him throughout.
“We thank the Omugusii for publicly supported our call for justice. Their unwavering support reinforces our conviction that justice must not only be done, but also be seen to be done. It’s time for Kenyans to have the regime they chose, not one imposed on them through deception,” Mr Odinga said.
At the General Election of last year, Governor Arati defeated political heavyweights Chris Obure and Prof. Sam Ongeri in a closely contested fight for governor.
Soon after taking office, Governor Arati began a vigorous campaign against corruption within his administration by identifying 861 ghost workers in the county government across all ministries.
