A suspect who had survived a shooting incident in the Mathare neighborhood of Nairobi was detained as he was going to a nearby hospital for treatment
The perpetrator, who was accompanied by three accomplices, on Monday night when police on patrol were alerted.
The suspects, who were on a motorcycle and carrying blades, allegedly robbed a pedestrian of Sh2,000 before an alert was raised.
Patrolling police arrived quickly and engaged the bandits. Three of the gangsters were subsequently captured, but one managed to flee hurt.
A short while later, authorities received word that the suspect had arrived to Huruma Nursing Hospital seeking medical attention for his gunshot wounds.
He was bleeding from bullet wounds on the left side of his chest, close to his arm. He was transported to the hospital early on Tuesday morning and informed the physician that he had been shot along Thika Road, according to the police.
After receiving treatment, the culprit was apprehended right away by police officers who were waiting for him. He was recognized by police on the scene as the guy who had earlier eluded capture in the shooting and robbery event.
Any case of a bullet injury must be reported to authorities by hospitals.
