The Naivasha Level 4 Hospital Board was disbanded by the Nakuru County administration as a result of complaints of neglect and inadequate leadership.
Following a public outcry over the provision of services that apparently caused a mother’s death on Tuesday, January 17, the board was dismissed.
On January 18, locals of Naivasha blocked the entrance to the prison at the same time to protest the passing of the 23-year-old who had been a three-day inmate.
The woman was allegedly abandoned by the doctors, who left her bleeding for hours after giving birth, according to the deceased’s family.
One of the family members said, “She informed us that she was attempting to reach out to the doctors for assistance but they were all wearing earbuds and they could not listen to her when she called.”
The move was confirmed by Samuel Mwaura, the county secretary, who added that Governor Susan Kihika will nominate new members and that it was a part of the hospital’s restructuring.
“This hospital’s board has not performed its supervisory duties effectively. The county team will arrive to look into what happened in detail, according to Mwaura.
Residents asked that the government respond quickly in response to their complaints that there had been numerous examples previously documented of women losing their lives during birth.
“An occurrence of this nature was recorded in 2022. Because the doctors disregarded her, another woman was forced to give birth on the hospital floor. In this hospital, her child later passed away.
A local said, “Our mothers are suffering at this hospital and no one is doing anything.”
The county secretary acknowledged that a number of difficulties, such as staff and medical shortages, have impacted service delivery at the hospital.
Mwaura noted that the county was determined to deal with the problems, so it hired extra staff and gave the hospital the medicines and equipment it required.
According to Mwaura, the hospital owes Ksh250 million in total to its suppliers, making it challenging for the institution to provide the necessary service.
