A digital-out-of-home (DOOH) campaign featuring billboards in Nairobi and Johannesburg has been launched by TikTok to honor its most recognized creators and their efforts to communicate the African story a few weeks after the platform named Sub-Saharan Africa’s #TopCreator2022.
The first cities to test the conceptualized digital billboards are Johannesburg (Braamfontein) and Nairobi (Westgate Mall, The Hub Karen and Moi Avenue).
This is done to encourage creativity and offer happiness to the people who created the content as well as the viewers in the local communities.
Short videos of the #TopCreator2022 finalists, including Natasha Gwal, also known as @natasha gwal, a businesswoman and model, are displayed on billboards.
Her most recent victory was the TikTok Top Creator East Africa 2022 title.
Alongside her is beauty enthusiast Nita (@beautyby.nita), who thanks to her creative makeup tutorials won the East Africa Runner-Up prize.
TikTok’s Head of Content Programming for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Boniswa Sidwaba, said;
“Our aim with this campaign was to use DOOH’s reach as a medium to provide our creators a platform to tell their tales.
The Top Producers featured on the strategically positioned digital billboards around SSA act as a source of inspiration for the nearby communities and enhance the happiness that these creators have been able to unlock on TikTok.
The winner of TikTok Top creator for Sub-Saharan Africa in 2022 was named as Dennis Ombachi.
