Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been ordered by a Nairobi court to provide the Directorate of Criminal Investigations with CCTV footage of his Karen home.
According to what we understand, the DCI filed a motion with the court asking for authorization to view the footage as part of its inquiries into what took place during the claimed nighttime raid on his Karen house on February 8th.
The investigative team added that initial examinations showed the house had security cameras installed, which would aid in determining the specifics of what happened.
The security company hired to operate the CCTV cameras will be expected to forward the material captured between February 8 and February 9 before February 22, when the matter has been set for a hearing, in accordance with the directives given to the DCI.
A battalion of elite police personnel allegedly encircled Matiang’i’s home on the evening of the crucial day in order to arrest him, according to earlier claims made by Matiang’i and his attorneys.
The Kenya Police Service and a number of other criminal justice system organizations, on the other hand, dissociated themselves from the reported raid on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Amin, the head of DCI, announced on Thursday, February 9 that his organization would launch investigations into the allegations. Preliminary investigations, according to him, had found indications of a pre-planned decoy strategy to raise a false alarm and place the responsibility on the police.
The Media Council of Kenya also instructed media outlets to provide proof of the police presence in the former CS’s residence, as had been widely reported.
The Media Regulatory Authority asked media outlets, “We request you to supply the Council with genuine video obtained by your crew at the scene and the names of the editors/reporters who were sent there.
