A police station is a full-fledged establishment with more personnel, more services, and greater authority.
It has more police, is led by an Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and deals with serious reports and investigations, including major assaults, robberies, homicides, and sexual offenses.
A police station typically serves as the hub for a number of smaller stations nearby and features holding cells, an armory, cars, and complete administrative offices.
Additionally, it is fully staffed and runs around the clock.
A police post, on the other hand, is a minor division that works under a larger police station.
It has fewer officers, perhaps five to ten, and is led by a non-commissioned officer, usually a corporal or sergeant.
A police station has few or no holding cells and deals with routine reports like misplaced objects, little arguments, and local traffic problems.
The primary police station receives referrals for serious situations.
The primary purpose of a police post is to increase police presence in the neighborhood.
