Mukami Kimathi passed away in Nairobi on Thursday night May 4.
The report was confirmed by her daughter Evelyn Kimathi, who said that her mother, affectionately known as Maitû, was rushed to Nairobi Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties.
Evelyn claimed that Dedan Kimathi’s body be released from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison and given a respectable funeral was her mother’s final request.
A funeral service will be held at Mukami Kimathi’s residence in Njabini, Nyandarua County.
Many Kenyans are upset by the news since Mukami served as a reminder of the nation’s rich heritage as well as a symbol of strength and resiliency.
Dedan Kimathi, the renowned leader of the Mau Mau freedom movement, was Mukami Kimathi’s husband and spearheaded the effort to free Kenya from British colonial authority.
In 1957, Dedan Kimathi was kidnapped by the British, who then murdered him. He left behind his wife Mukami and their kids.
Mukami kept on the battle for freedom and justice in Kenya and carried on her husband’s legacy.
She was a key participant in the Mau Mau movement and a well-known person in the independence movement.
The Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi has received Mukami Kimathi’s remains.
