A suspect who is suspected of being responsible for the death of National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) employee Lilian Waithera has provided detailed information about that terrible day.
The suspect denied firing the fatal shot, but he admitted to being in the Nairobi Central Business District, a senior officer who talked to the press said (CBD).
The authorized gun owner acknowledged having his rifle with him on that crucial day. He asserted, however, that he had left it in his vehicle before to running some errands.
The suspect also refuted reports that he had climbed any buildings in the Central Business District around 5:00 p.m.
The officer implied that the man claimed he never went up to any of the floors of the building and that, before leaving, he allegedly went and put the firearm in his car.
On Monday, February 20, at around 2:00 pm, detectives detained the 38-year-old businessman and interrogated him at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road.
Once the event was reported, police tracked the suspect to his residence in Kenol, Murang’a County, where he reportedly remained for the entire following week.

A ballistics analysis was performed on the businessman’s handgun after he turned it over to the police in order to determine whether the businessman’s bullet actually killed Waithera.
Police are following every lead they can find as their investigations go on to determine if the NHIF employee was killed intentionally or accidentally by a stray bullet.
On Monday, February 13, Waithera was shot and killed as she walked home with her friend along Kaunda Street.
Police were able to see CCTV footage that showed her collapsing suddenly, which caused some uncertainty because there was no gunshot audible.
The NHIF employee was treated by medical personnel for around 11 minutes before being rushed to the hospital, where she was discovered to be dead. The ambulance that was dispatched 20 minutes later arrived at the scene.
