The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued a security warning for american citizens traveling to Kenya.
The US Embassy warned its citizens to exercise caution in areas of Nairobi and other countries that are visited by foreign nationals, according to the notice released on Thursday, February 9.
These consist of lodging facilities, dining establishments, shopping centers, educational institutions, and houses of worship.
The message urges Americans to take precautions and to always be on guard because terrorist organizations may carry out attacks with little or no notice.
The notice stated, in part, that “locations often visited by US citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets for terrorists seeking to commit potentially imminent strikes.”
In high-risk locations, the government has expanded counterterrorism patrols.
The US Embassy did advise Americans to reassess their personal security preparations and take extra precautions.
The recommended precautions include being alert of one’s surroundings, keeping an eye on local media for updates, and heeding local authorities’ recommendations.
This comes just after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who has been in office for 100 days, reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing security in the nation.
Countrywide crime has decreased by 13% in the last three months, according to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.
There were 7,179 fewer incidents overall than there were 8,297. Kindiki contends that a significant contributing element in the decline in crime is the government’s efforts to thwart terrorist schemes.
The CS said that in addition to reducing crime, the war on terror has intensified, with numerous terror plots foiled.
