The Eastern Bypass will be temporarily closed, affecting drivers on both Mombasa and Thika roads, according to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

In a statement dated Saturday, February 18, KURA announced that beginning on Sunday, February 19, at 6 am, a part of the road would be closed for 12 hours.

According to the road administration, the lane leading to Mombasa Road would be able to undergo construction thanks to the closure.

A number of road signs had also been installed, according to KURA, to help direct traffic on the roadway.

This will enable the surface dressing to be laid down at the segment between Green Spot Gardens and Thika Road Junction by the contractor.

The announcement said, in part, “Motorists are asked to drive carefully and comply with the installed road signs. Traffic Marshalls and the police will be on-site to guide vehicles and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

As a result, KURA provided alternate routes for use by drivers planning to use the highway that day.

It’s noteworthy that KURA stated that all drivers will use the lane designated for cars heading from Mombasa Road to Thika Road.

Nonetheless, motorists traveling to Mombasa Road would continue using their regular lane at the Shell Fuel station close to Sunrise Road, indicating that the area was not impacted by the restriction.

In order to prevent unneeded traffic jams on the motorway, drivers were also instructed to keep a speed of 30 km/h.

Also, the road agency stated that the contractors would complete the job on schedule to guarantee a smooth flow of traffic on Monday, February 20.

The statement said, in part, “We regret any difficulty caused and urge the public to cooperate as we work to better urban transportation.”
