Charity Ngilu, a former governor of Kitui, made a political comeback on Wednesday, April 5, following a seven-month absence.
She addressed the protests against the government being headed by the Azimio coalition in her first political speech since the general election on August 9, 2022.
Ngilu also explained her decision to leave politics while she was present for the funeral of real estate mogul Pius Musembi Kivindu in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County.
Some leaders claim that they are unable to see Ngilu, and it is accurate that you are unable to see me.
“But I want to say that those who are asking about my whereabouts, started demonstrating just the other day while I have inhaled teargas since 1992,” she revealed why she had taken a break.
Ngilu said that while she wouldn’t be participating in protests, she still backed Azimio’s call for changes in the nation.
She supported the anti-government stance by saying, “I see what you are doing, Kalonzo, and I want to encourage you to soldier on because that is the correct direction.
Ngilu also charged that Kenyans were being duped by the administration of President William Ruto.
“As Azimio, we had a precise plan for what we would do if we were elected president.
She made fun of Ruto by saying that “others said as soon as they put down the Bible, maize flour price would reduce to Ksh70.”
Ngilu added that the dialogue should use a bipartisan strategy and be open so that Kenyans could understand what was being discussed.
Attendee and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka echoed Ngilu’s views on the necessity of transparency during the talks.
“We have no issues with the parliamentary system, and on Thursday, April 6, we will release a roster of the members who will be a part of the bipartisan approach team.
But Kalonzo emphasized that in order for everyone in Kenya to profit, “we must emphasize that there be sincerity from both parties.”
On April 6, Azimio’s Parliamentary Group will meet in Machakos County to discuss the bipartisan strategy President William Ruto has proposed for resolving the political impasse.
On the other side, Kenya Kwanza’s PG is scheduled to make its representative list public on Tuesday, April 11, according to the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah.
